Joint speed optimisation and lock scheduling for inland waterway transport
This project studies how skippers navigating inland waterway networks can coordinate their sailing speed and lock usage to reduce fuel consumption and congestion. We developed joint speed-optimisation models for skipper collaboration and local search heuristics for lock scheduling, evaluated on real-world inland waterway networks.
